Bernard Kelly from Enterprise Chamber Australia chats about how to get the most out of retirement at any age. We all have a different view of retirement with the retirement question being very daunting for some. Bernard poses the question what is retirement and how to get there? Still being productive and helpful is Bernard’s way to enjoying and prolonging his retirement.
Retirement is a relatively modern concept. Because of longevity we are all living beyond the age when one typically retired from work. There is no longer a fixed retirement age in Australia. Many are taking advantage of this flexibility and transitioning into retirement. They are choosing to work part time and ease themselves into retirement.
Many people choose to retire when they become eligible for the Age Pension. The Age Pension age in Australia is 65½ and it rises in stages to 67 in July 2023. You can work out when you can access your retirement savings (super) and what age you may be eligible to apply for the Aged Pension on the ASIC Money Smart website.
We are all looking at a long retirement. 25 years is a minimum time for most baby boomers will spend in retirement. Bernard Kelly at 70 + is keeping busy. He has established a book publishing and project management business as well as fidning time mentoring home based business owners. Being the voice of micro enterprise has enabled Bernard to maintain his zest for living.
