Paul Attaway shares how to enjoy your retirement when you follow your passion. After a 30-year business career, Paul was used to writing but decided to take his retirement in a different direction. Follow the trials of writing and self-publishing a first novel, a drama, Blood in the Low Country.

Paul learnt to write in law school. His work gave him many opportunities to write including how-to articles for the workspace and website content. However, when it came to writing fiction it was a different challenge.
To prepare himself for his new challenge Paul read a lot of books and blogs on writing a book. His best advice came from a film editor, ‘just write and stitch it together later’. Paul believes this advice gave him the freedom to be more creative as he stopped trying to write the book ‘end to end’.
Retirement gives you the chance to pursue a new direction. It can be the time to indulge in those interests and allow yourself to follow your passion. Don’t fall into the trap of losing your purpose when you retire. This can be the ideal time to reset your life and enjoy a very fulfilling retirement.
