Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland is a statewide not-for-profit organisation advancing the rights, interests and futures of people as they age.
For the first time in its 60-year history, Queensland’s annual celebration of seniors is going virtual.
This year more than ever people need something to celebrate, in the safest way possible. That is why this year the usually interactive event will completely transform into an online affair.
As Covid-19 regulations has seen many older people in self-isolation, never has it been more important to ensure people remain connected and don’t become segregated.
To do so, Queensland Seniors Week is thinking outside the box, and the organizers are launching a full calendar of events virtually and physically, if allowed.
Seniors Week provides opportunities to promote positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing, facilitate community participation, and enhance community connections, aligning with the Queensland Government’s and Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland’s vision of building Age-friendly communities in Queensland.
It is not too late for your community group to join in the action and organize activities to help celebrate your senior citizens.
One initiative is giving a vitual hugs. A hug can show affection and emotional warmth, sharing joy or happiness. A hug can give support, comfort, and consolation, especially where words are not enough. Join in the fun and give a virtual hug this year to your loved one in Seniors Week.
