It is a recurring theme that I have come across that when you find your purpose then you also find happiness. In my Retire Well Retire Happy book the light was shone on how to save yourself from a depressing retirement. I turned to Pete Jensen, author of the book “Lessons in Happiness from the Third World – How the West got so Depressed and What to do About it?” The book covers the three core principles of community, purpose and gratitude in great detail. Pete believes that this is a big thing in the west because we are so busy a lot of people are not aware of their purpose or do not have a spiritual grounding.
”Happiness is not in our circumstance but in ourselves. It is not something we see, like a rainbow, or feel, like the heat of a fire. Happiness is something we are.” John B Sheerin
When you have a sense of purpose in your life then this will lead to happiness in retirement and can even help you to live longer.
